New Book: MySQL Clustering

By Carsten | March 23, 2006

I just received a copy of Alex Davies and Harrison Fisk’s book MySQL Clustering (us; uk).

I had the honor of reading a few of the chapters before they were published, and this looks to be a really excellent hands-on guide for setting up your own clusters. It takes you all the way from a thorough understanding of the types of nodes that make up a cluster, hardware requirements and initial setup through security and management to tuning and troubleshooting.

This is good timing; on Sunday I’ll be spending some 18 hours strapped down in various airplane seats while traveling to our internal trainer’s conference. So expect a thorough review to be published next week :-)

Did I mention that Harrison will be delivering one of the certification tutorials at the upcoming User’s Conference? Hmm… guess I did.

[...] As I mentioned last week, I got a copy of Alex Davies and Harrison Fisk’s book MySQL Clustering (us; uk). The book is not very big, and with some 14 stuck-in-an-airplane-seat hours available, I got a chance to read through the remaining chapters. It will be easy to claim that this is the book on MySQL Cluster, but since it’s so far the only one in existence, I guess I’ll have to reserve judgment on that particular idea for a while yet. Let me just say that whoever decides to try to compete with this book has their work cut out for them. [...]
